Today Nikon announces the newest ILC to hit the market, the Nikon 1 AW1. It is the first waterproof and shockproof digital camera of its kind. The Nikon 1 AW1 is all about adventure. The camera (paired with the waterproof lenses) can reach a depth of 49 feet and take a drop from 6.5 feet. The camera also features a continuous shutter speed of 15 frames per second. The camera has a built-in GPS, live image control, and a built-in flash. The Nikon 1 AW1 has advanced rugged features like an altimeter/depth gauge, an electronic compass, and action control like the AW110 that will allow you to change your settings even when wearing gloves.
Nikon is offering two new lenses along with the announcement of the 1 AW1, the 10mm f2.8 and the 11-27.5mm f3.5-5.6 waterproof lenses. Although these lenses cannot be changed underwater, they can be submerged for underwater photography.
The Nikon 1 AW1 will be available in October for $749.95 when aired with the new 11-27.5mm waterproof lens or $949.95 when paired with the new 10mm and 11-27.5mm lenses (both waterproof). The camera will be available in black, white or silver.
