Today, Adobe announced the availability of Lightroom 5. Starting immediately Lightroom 5 is now available for purchase as an individual license or through the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. For those frustrated with the Creative Cloud subscription plans, it is nice to know that Lightroom is still available as an individual license. Pricing for Lightroom 5 has not changed. It is available for $149 if purchasing a new license or $79 for an upgrade. For the vast functionality of the Lightroom program, we are happy to see that Adobe has chosen to keep the cost competitive.
Lightroom 5 add several new editing tools. The advanced healing brush allows photographers to fix imperfections that are irregularly shaped. The upright tool analyzes the image to straighten objects like buildings and horizons. The radial gradients tool gives the photographer the ability to use off centered and/or multiple vignettes in a single image. Seen below are two samples for these functions.
In addition to the editing tools, Lightroom 5 adds enhanced sharing and publishing capabilities. A new video slideshow lets users combine still images, video clips and music to create impressive slideshows that can be viewed on almost any device. Updates have been added to the "Book" mode that allows photo book templates to be tailored, personalized and printed. Finally, Smart Previews are available for Lightroom 5. This allows users to edit their images offline and then have those edits available when they are reconnected.
Over 400 bug fixes were completed on the Beta version before releasing the final version we see today.
