Valentine's Day Gifts for the Photographer

Valentine's day is coming up and we all know that you heart shiny new things. Every photographer loves gifts, but some are just better than others. Check out our suggestions for some perfectly portable, easily wrapped, and extremely useful gifts for the picture taker in your life.

Samsung NX1000:

What would a Valentine's Day list be without a pink camera? Samsung's NX1000 comes in the tickle-me-worthy shade and houses a 20.3 MP APS-C sensor at its core. Plus it boasts Wi-Fi sharing abilities, so you'll be able to make all your Facebook friends hungry after showing them photos of the case you got from Godiva.

To keep the package small, Samsung has a number of pancake prime lenses that will keep this camera ready to toss into your day bag or around the shoulder.

iPad Mini or the Nexus 10

A small tablet is a great option for the photographer in your life that needs something portable to show their portfolio on and also wants to have an easier option for doing business. Just how useful are these little tablets? Besides being able to fit easily into a purse or a messenger bag, they can fit into a peacoat jacket. Plus, when your images are exported at 163 PPI, they'll look tack sharp and super crisp--more than good enough for potential clients. Speaking of which, ASMP also has an app that allows photographers to let people sign a standard model release on the go. Still not convinced? These tablets mimic the feel of a paperback book or leather bound journal, which are perfect for email management, task management, and note taking.

If that isn't useful, we're not sure what is.

ONA The Bowery:

We all love beautiful things, but ONA has been making beautiful camera bags from the start. One of their latest additions is the Bowery. Designed for both men and women, it is small enough to not break your back while carrying all your essential gear. The bag is something special featuring waxed canvas, leather trimmings, antique brass hardware, side flaps to protect something like a phone, and just enough padding on the inside to protect your gear without too much smothering. Consider this bag for the gear minimalist.

ONA's bags also come with a free case of wax for you to polish up the bag after it's been broken in. Of course though, some people love the broken in look.

Camera Buttons:

Some photographers wear their cameras around their wrist, neck or torso. But what if you could pin a cute novelty item to your clothing? For the photo-fashionista in your life, look no further than this awesome pin. This accessory looks perfect on a skinny tie (which I do often), on a collar, or on a pocket. If you've got a non-waxed canvas bag, consider giving it some pizzazz with this little street shooter.

Lens Coffee Mugs:

Does the photog in your life have the hankering for java? Coffee not only helps lots of us wake up in the morning, but for many of us it is a total obsession (especially if you work in a big city.) Lens mugs have been around for quite a while and are very popular with photographers. Depending on how much they love the bean, the mugs come in various sizes and appeal to both sides of the war with Canon and Nikon versions.

!mo Little Pink Hearts Strap:

Do you have someone that shoots weddings and engagements? Consider snagging this awesomely stylish camera strap by !mo. Made out of cotton, leather, and nylon webbing this strap is decorated in little pink hearts all over. The strap is suitable for DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, but would probably go very well with the film aficionado in your life that has a soft spot for lomography's quirky cameras.

Consider this for the photographer that wears their heart on their sleeve.

Lomography LC-A+:

If you have a film shooter or someone looking for a bit more experimentation in their lives, one of the best ways is to get them a film camera. Lomography's LC-A+ is one of the best deals around for that. Sporting a 32mm f2.8 lens and featuring total program mode shooting, they'll find shooting to be a total joy--just remember to zone focus beforehand! Plus, there is a built in light meter for taking photos in nearly any situation.

The Lomography LC-A+ features the ability to use 35mm film (ISO 100-1600) or Fujifilm Instax instant film. The camera is still being produced every day brand new if you don't want to go for an older alternative like a Hexar AF or Ricoh GR1s. Of course, none of them are as pocket-sized or simple to use as this camera.

Fujifilm Instax 210 Wide:

The more parties and weddings that you go to, the more of these little products you see everywhere. Commonly mistaken for or called Polaroid cameras, these cameras are actually made by Fujifilm and shoot on a special wide instant film made by the company. This Instax Wide film is sold at many camera retailers and other shops. Featuring a 95mm f14 fixed lens, this camera shoots 4x3 inch positives and uses 4 AA batteries.

This camera and the Instax Mini 7s tend to be very popular at gatherings due to the compact size, instant printing gratification, and the overall fun that they are.

Olympus CBG-8 Casual bag:

Tote bags are very useful. But what if a functional one came out that remained stylish and could still protect your gear? Olympus has recently released the CBG-8 casual tote bag. With a stylish white exterior, brown leather trimmings, and padded inserts to hold your camera and lenses, you can stuff your mirrorless camera and much more in there for a daily walkabout.

This bag was designed with what seems to be a very feminine quality to it, as it can be converted to be carried just like a normal handbag.

Consider this bag for the enthusiast or a fashion-conscious photographer that also needs to protect their gear.

Happy Valentine's Day to to all the photographers out there from DigitalCameraReview.com!
