Apple Announces RAW Support for 9 Cameras

Apple announces Digital Camera RAW compatibility update 4.04. This update adds RAW support to its OS-X system and allows iPhoto and Aperture to manage the RAW images files from the following cameras: Nikon D5200, Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1, Pentax K-5 II/s, Pentax K-30, Pentax Q, Leica D-Lux 6, Leica V-Lux 4, and Leica X2. In order to take advantage of this update you must currently be running Aperture 3.4 and iPhoto 9.4 or later. OS X 10.8.2 or later or Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later is also necessary.

With a multitude of new cameras recently unveiled, Apple has been working overtime to keep up with them. This update allow users of these cameras to photograph in RAW, import them into Aperture or iPhoto, and post-process in these programs giving them greater control over their images.

Our recent journey to CES allowed us some hands-on time with the Nikon D5200. The Nikon D5200 has a huge 24.1 megapixel DX format CMOS sensor and covers a wide ISO range from 100-6400. It offers Nikon's most recent image processor, the EXPEED 3, which promises rapid camera response and energy saving measures. The D5200 has a 39-point AF system and features a continuous shooting mode of 5 frames per second when shooting at full resolution.
