Fujifilm F800 EXR First Look

2012 was a busy year for digital camera announcements. Fujifilm was no exception to this phenomenon. In July, Fuji announced the FinePix F800 EXR, the newest pocket zoom from their line of ultrazoom cameras. It's big on features and small on size. It might be hard to believe, but inside the small frame is housed 16 megapixels, a 20x zoom and ISO sensitivities up to 12,800.

The F800 offers a sleek design with a choice of 4 colors: champagne gold, black, red, and white. Unlike many digital cameras that have recently been released, the F800 is packed full of physical dials and buttons. It boasts a 3-inch LCD screen, which surprisingly, does not include touchscreen capabilities. But you won't hear us complaining. The functionality from the physical dials surpasses the potential convenience that comes from a touchscreen. With 460,000 dots and a 160 degree viewing area, the TFT color LCD monitor is sharp and bright.

A 20x optical zoom allows the user to quickly bring subjects into close range. With an 35mm camera equivalent of 25-500mm, the F800 is easily able to photography anything from your child's soccer game to the Bengal's Superbowl win. And if 500mm is not enough, the camera comes equipped with a 40x Intelligent Digital Zoom which equates to a whopping 1000 millimeters! Although we don't suggest using the feature without a tripod, you may find a situation where this length can come in handy.

Since camera shake is such an issue at these long telephoto lengths, Fuji offers high ISO images stabilization. Combined with CMOS Shift, Fuji plans to ensure sharp images and stabilize your photos with these recent improvements.

The EXR auto feature intuitively selects the proper setting from 103 possible patterns. The fast response auto focus works in unison to with the EXR to provide users a more pleasurable photographic experience.

Interested in producing more creative images directly in your camera? Fuji's F800 offers six special filters including pop color, toy camera, miniature, high-key, partial color, and dynamic tones. The camera even allows you to create 3D type images, multiple exposure pictures and panoramic photos.

Sharing images is also a breeze with the Wireless Image Transfer feature. Fuji promises that you can share your pictures through a free app offered by Fujifilm. Browse through your images on your smartphone. Want to "revisit" your favorite spots? By framing your shot in Landmark Navigator, you will be able to determine your exact location where your photo was taken.

While the camera totes a laundry list of available features, the true assessment comes while we put the camera to the test over the next two weeks. Check back in soon for our full review of the Fujifilm F800 EXR.
