Hot on the heels of Panasonic's announcement of a fast aperture zoom lens comes a new prime from Olympus. The 75mm
f/1.8 is designated by Olympus as a High Grade Portrait Lens, and will equate to a 150mm focal length in 35mm terms when coupled to a Micro Four Thirds camera body.
What makes it special? That bright f/1.8 aperture, for starters. The lens is comprised of ten elements in nine groups with three ED (Extra-low dispersion) elements in place to correct for chromatic aberration. It uses Olympus' MSC Move and Still Compatible auto focusing mechanism to reduce AF noise during video recording. The lens itself measures 2.7 inches in length with a 50mm diameter front glass element.
Pricing and Availability
Premium lenses don't come cheap - the M.Zuiko Digital ED 75mm f/1.8 will sell for $899.99 and should be available this summer.
