Pentax K-30 Weather-Resistant DSLR Unveiled

Pentax-Ricoh takes the wraps off a new mid-range DSLR, adding the weather-resistant K-30 to its portfolio. This new addition offers an updated AF system, up to 6 fps burst shooting and a 100% field of view optical viewfinder. True to Pentax's outside-of-the-box style, the K-30 will be sold in a couple of bold color options as well as traditional black.

Key features of the new K-30 DSLR will include:

• A 16 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor capable of 1080p video (30, 25 or 24 fps) and an ISO range of 100-12800.
• Re-hauled AF system - the SAFOX IXi+ AF module offers 11 focus points, 9 of which are cross-type sensors.
• Grand total of 81 weather seals giving the K-30 its weather-resistant super powers. It's also built to withstand freezing temperatures as low as 14 degrees Fahrenheit.
• Flexible power source thanks to a compatible optional D-BH109 AA battery adapter. The camera ships with a rechargeable lithium-ion unit rated up to 480 images per charge.
• In-camera stabilization provided by Pentax's SR shake reduction system.
• Focus peaking function in live view mode
• Top shutter speed of 1/6000 second

Also introduced is a new 50mm f1/8 prime lens. It's compact and lightweight at 4.3 ounces, offering an equivalent focal length of 76.5mm when mounted to a K-series DSLR such as the K-30.

Pricing and Availability
The K-30 will be available in stores this July priced at $849.99 body-only or $899.95 with 18-55mm kit lens. The DA 50mm f/1.8 prime will be offered around the same time for $249.95.
