Photoplus isn't the biggest photography tradeshow - Photokina has that covered. It's not in Vegas and there are few, if any, celebrities in attendance. Held each fall in New York City, it's a gathering place for big manufacturers and small accessories producers, for photographers, students and enthusiasts. And if your name isn't on the registration list, we've got you covered.
We'll have all the show floor coverage you could hope for right here. The show kicks off this Thursday, October 27th and we're taking a look ahead at what we can expect to see.
The New EOS On the Block
In one fell swoop, Canon's EOS 1D X replaced both the 1Ds Mark III and 1D Mark IV. The 18.1 megapixel full-frame DSLR offers an impressive 61-point AF system, 1080 HD video and 12 fps burst shooting. It boasts dual Digic 5+ processors, making it one of the fastest and most adaptable full-frame DSLRs ever put into production.
The EOS 1D X is the biggest launch we've seen from Canon this year and is sure to be one of the highlights on the show floor.
Fujifilm Takes Retro Back
Aren't we all suckers for retro design? The Fuji X10 has plenty going for it aside from a chic exterior. It houses a 12 megapixel EXR CMOS sensor, 1080 HD video and burst shooting at up to 7 fps. Round that out with an all-glass f/2 Fujinon lens and it's a pretty enticing fixed-lens camera. Many potential customers will find it more attainable than its big X100 brother - the X10 is priced around $600.
We'll be looking for it on the show floor. Until then, you can study up by reading our X10 launch coverage.
PhotoPlus is that time of the year when we get to catch up with all of the accessories manufacturers who usually fly under the radar at big shows like CES. We'll check in with Lowepro, Athentech, Lensbaby and the always-surprising Gary Fong. With the holidays around the corner (believe it or not) we'll have a firsthand look at the latest gear before you start making your wish list.
