Pentax offers a new pocketable ultrazoom today, the Optio RZ18. Featuring an 18x optical zoom lens, topping its 10x RZ10 predecessor. It also features 720p HD video capture and macro shooting as close as 4cm.

Aside from the increase in zoom range, the RZ18 will offer a larger 3.0-inch LCD with 460k-dots of resolution to the RZ10's 2.7-inch monitor. The new ultrazoom also features a 16 megapixel CCD sensor, sensor-shift SR shake reduction and wireless remote control shooting with a compatible, separately sold infrared controller.

The beginner-friendly Optio RZ18 is equipped with face detection and Pentax's Auto Picture mode for automatic scene detection. That generous 18x zoom starts at a wide 25mm equivalent, helpful for framing landscapes and pictures of group gatherings. In-camera digital filters include Miniature and Toy Camera effects among others.
Pricing and availability
Expect to see the Optio RZ18 available to consumers in October 2011. Offered in black, pearl white or metallic orange it will retail for $299.95.
