Panasonic Launches Lumix DMC-FZ150 Ultrazoom

Panasonic aims to maximize low-light potential with its FZ150, scaling back sensor resolution to 12.1 megapixels from the 14.1 megapixel imager that the FZ100 used. With less pixels crowding the sensor, photos shot in low light situations stand a better chance of avoiding high levels of noise and grain.

The lens remains unchanged from the previous generation. The FZ150 will offer the same 24x optical zoom covering a 25-600mm equivalent range. Maximum aperture remains the same - a fairly wide f/2.8-5.2. On the hardware side, the FZ150 offers a tilting 3.0-inch LCD. It accepts SD, SDHC and SDXC memory media and includes a mini HDMI out port.

Images may be saved as RAW or JPEG files, and video capture resolution maxes out at 1080 HD in either 60p or 60i. ISO range extends from 100 up to 3200. Burst mode offers a fast 12 fps full resolution continuous shooting rate capped at 12 frames. Dropping resolution down to 5 megapixels makes rates of up to 40 fps possible.

Pricing and availability
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150 will be available in late September for a suggested retail price of $499.99.
