Canon confirms that its venerable 5D Mark II DSLR was used to capture action scenes in this summer's blockbuster release "Captain America: The First Avenger." Recorded in 1080p HD, these action shots were integrated with the rest of the film's 35mm footage.
Jonathan Taylor, the film's second unit director, cites the 5D Mark II's compact size as a major advantage when trying to capture scenes from hard-to-reach spots. During the filming of car chase scenes, the 5D II was mounted to the interioirs and exteriors of moving vehicles.
The 5D Mark II was also used to film a season finale of Fox series "House." Filmmakers are increasingly turning to HD video equipped DSLRs for movie and commercial projects, citing creative advantages and the comparitively low cost of equipment. At this year's 6sight Conference, Vincent Laforet discussed his own history of creating HD video using DSLRs.
