Nikon has announced the Nikkor AF-S 50mm f/1.8G lens, a compact, prime lens that combines the versatility of a 50mm focal length and the benefits of a fast aperture for photos and movies.
The new lens aims to produces sharp, high-resolution images and has the ability to focus as close as 1.48 feet (0.45 meters), with excellent depth of field control. The lens also features Nikon's Silent Wave Motor, which ensures fast, quiet auto focus operation, which is especially important when recording movies. While the lens is optimized for Nikon's large sensor FX format cameras such as the D3x or D700 it can also be used with Nikon's popular DX format cameras such as the D3100, D5100 or D7000.
