Nikon Adds Four New Compact Coolpix Models

Rounding out a batch of camera announcements before the CP+ tradeshow gets underway, Nikon announces the Coolpix S6100, S3100, S4100 and Coolpix L24 digital compacts. Each model uses the EXPEED C2 image processor and Scene Auto Selector or Easy Auto modes.

The S6100 will offer a 7x optical zoom lens, a 16 megapixel sensor and a 3.0-inch touchscreen. The lens offers a wide 28mm angle of view and focusing as close as 3cm in Macro mode.

It will record 720p HD videos, and the rechargeable lithium-ion battery is rated at about 210 shots of battery life. The S6100 will accept SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

Nikon Coolpix S4100 and S3100
The S4100 and S3100 both offer a 14 megapixel sensor, a 5x wide angle zoom lens and 720p HD video recording. The S4100 will have a 3.0-inch 460k-dot touchscreen, while the S3100 will have a traditional 2.7-inch LCD.

The back-to-basics L24 offers a 3.6x optical zoom lens, a 14 megapixel sensor and a 3.0-inch 230k-dot LCD. It includes 17MB of internal memory and will also accept SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. The L24 is powered by AA batteries and offers an ISO sensitivity range of 80-1600.

Pricing and availability
The Nikon Coolpix S6100 will be available in March for $199.95. The Nikon Coolpix S4100 with touchscreen is priced at $179.95 and its non-touch counterpart, the Nikon Coolpix S3100, will cost $139.95. They will be available in February, as will be the Nikon Coolpix L24, retailing for $119.95.
