Samsung announces two new budget compact digitals today, the ES80 and PL90. They offer basic features and a 5x optical zoom lens.
The PL20, powered by AA batteries, will feature a 14 megapixel sensor, 27mm wide angle lens and 720p HD video recording at 24 fps. Like the ES80 it will offer Smart Auto mode for automatic scene detection and in-camera art filters like "fisheye" and "miniaturize."
The ES80 will have a 12 megapixel sensor and the same 27mm wide angle lens, though it won't offer HD video recording. Like the PL20 it will employ a digital image stabilization system to raise ISO in an effort to avoid camera shake. Both cameras offer face detection technology with a Self Portrait mode. In this mode, the camera emits a sound to indicate that your face is in frame.
Pricing and availability
The Samsung PL20 will be available in March for $119.99 and the Samsung ES80 will be available in April for $99.99.
