Canon unveils four new PowerShot compact digital cameras today with a slightly new naming convention. The PowerShot ELPH SX230 HS, PowerShot ELPH 500 HS, PowerShot ELPH 300 HS and PowerShot ELPH 100 HS debut with enhanced low light capability and HD video recording.
Canon will no longer assign camera model names the letters "SD," such as in the Canon PowerShot Digital ELPH SD1300 IS. "Digital" has also been dropped. The new cameras will be named PowerShot ELPH (model number) HS, with HS meaning "high sensitivity."

The PowerShot 500 comes in lighter than the SX230 in terms of zoom power, with a 4.4x optical zoom, but it features a bright f/2.0 maximum aperture. Also on board is a 12 megapixel CMOS sensor capable of recording 1080 HD video viewable on the camera's 3.2-inch 460k-dot touchscreen.
