Samsung makes the NX100 official after a series of odd leaks. The good news? It's a slimmer, sleeker version of the NX10 and it still packs an APS-C sized sensor.
The NX100 carries over several features from the NX10, which was introduced earlier this year at PMA. Both models offer a 3.0-inch AMOLED screen, a 14.6 megapixel sensor, and 720p HD video recording.
Some unusual features make their way into the NX system. The NX100 will support the use of new i-Function lenses. Users will be able to control exposure settings like shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB and ISO by operating a control ring around the lens. The i-Function lens is also designed to make lens selection easier for beginners. The lenses are marked witch icons indicating which shooting scenario they are best suited for.
The NX100's slimmed down design is a departure from the more traditionally-molded NX10. That's thanks in part to the absence of a built-in viewfinder on the NX100. An optional viewfinder accessory can be used with the camera, giving it a more point-and-shoot look and feel without the EVF attachment.
Seven post-capture filters can be applied to an image in-camera. The NX100 will be equipped with vignette, soft focus, fish-eye and miniature effects. The camera's ISO range will stretch from 100-3200 with an ISO 6400 extension available on the higher end of the spectrum. All of the usual manual, semi-manual and automatic exposure modes are present including SmartAuto, Program, Shutter priority, Aperture priority, and full Manual. Additional scene modes are available.
Samsung promises that the first half of 2011 will bring a new 60mm macro lens and an 18-200mm telephoto zoom for the NX system. In the second half of the year 16mm, 85mm and 16-80mm lenses are slated to arrive. The NX100 will be compatible with forthcoming EVF, flash and GPS accessories.
