Sony's European division announces three new Alpha a-mount lenses today. The Distagon T* 24mm f/2, DT 35mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/2.8 debuting will make their way to the US market in the fall of 2010.
The Zeiss-developed Distagon T* 24mm f/2 SSM (super sonic wave motor) will function as a fast, wide angle prime on a 35mm full frame camera. On an APS-C camera body, it will provide a 36mm equivalent focal length. The DT 35mm f/1.8 is offered as a lighter weight "easy choice" with a 50mm equivalent focal length on an APS-C sensor. The 85mm f/2.8 lens is designed for an optimal portrait focal length on a full frame system or a 127.5mm telephoto lens on an APS-C camera body.
Pricing and availability
Sony USA will announce the lenses closer to their availability in the US. For now, the 24mm and 85mm lenses are slated for availability in September and the 35mm will ship in October in Europe. Retail prices are listed at €1,250 for the 24mm, €200 for the 35mm and €250 for the 85mm.
