Sony produces sensor containing smallest pixels

Sony announced by way of its CX-News online publication that it has developed a 14.2 megapixel sensor containing the smallest pixels in the industry.

Sensor model ICX681SQW features pixels measuring 1.43 μm, while current Sony cameras use a 1.55 μm sized pixel. Despite the smaller pixel size, Sony claims that a new optical condensing structure will improve performance. The ICX681SQW boasts reduced power consumption by 12% over existing Sony sensors and will produce 3.55 megapixel still images at a high-sensitivity burst shooting rate of 5.389 fps.
