Canon SD4000 High Sensitivity ELPH announced

Canon launched the SD4000 IS Digital ELPH this morning calling it the first HS or "High Sensitivity" compact Canon camera. Some of the most interesting features include a bright f/2.0 lens, manual controls over aperture and shutter speed, and a burst shooting rate of up to 8.4 fps.

At the heart of the HS system is a 10 megapixel Back-Illuminated CMOS sensor. Sony and Nikon recently introduced cameras featuring a similar sensor, touting its ability to gather more light than a traditional CMOS. The SD4000 IS is also equipped with a DIGIC IV image processor.

HD movie recording is available as well as a 240 fps slow motion movie mode. These movie files are played back at 30 fps. Also available to the SD4000 IS user are a 3.0-inch LCD and a 3.8x optically stabilized zoom lens. It will accept SD/SDHC memory cards as well as new SDXC memory cards.

Pricing and availability
The Canon PowerShot SD4000 IS will be available in red, black, silver, and a limited edition white. It will retail for $349.99.
