PhotoPlus Expo 2009: Wrap Up

Cameras, lenses, and storage, oh my! The PhotoPlus Expo 2009 wrapped up today at the Javits center in New York and we're taking a look back at some of the small odds and ends we saw on the show floor. Join us in bidding PPE a fond farewell until next year.

The Nikon D3S and Canon 1D Mark IV stole the limelight in the days leading up to PhotoPlus, but let's not forget about the recent announcement from Leica. They introduced the M9 last month and brought it out from under the glass for show attendees to try out.

We also spent a few minutes with the Tamron SP AF 60mm F/2.0 Di II 1:1 Macro lens, announced earlier this year. Our test sample was coupled to a Canon 50D and fired off the very sharp image below.

The PhotoPlus Expo welcomes students and photo enthusiasts onto the show floor, so it's always an interesting mix of personalities. It offers a unique opportunity for photographers to gather and communicate with each other. And, like the gentleman in the picture below, some of them use the occassion to look for hard-to-find equipment.

Of course, Hoodman made an appearance as well, towering over the central part of the show floor.

Our coverage of the smaller goods on the show floor wraps up with the line of external hard drives from Western Digital. Their My Passport series continues to offer photographers lightweight, portable storage drives to keep files safe.

The drives introduced in 2009 are significantly smaller in physical size than the previous generation. They continue to offer external hard drives in USB and FireWire compatible units.

Over and out...
Our week began at the circus and winds down much the same way. The wrap up of PPE 2009 marks the end of the imaging tradeshow circuit for the year, so DCR is signing out. See you at CES 2010, folks.
