Sony took the wraps off a new S-Frame digital picture frame today at PhotoPlus. The multi-tasking DPP-F700 digital frame doubles as a photo printer, spitting out glossy 4x6 inch prints at 300x300 dpi resolution. Sony gave us a brief demo on the show floor.
The 7.0 inch display is bright, fairly sharp at 800x480 resolution, and a slim touch panel complements the use of a small remote control. Prints are produced in about 45 seconds via dye-sublimation magic.
Once the print is out of the printer, there's no need to "shake it like a Polaroid picture." The result is wallet-ready and free of smudgy wet inks.
The frame will produce borderless 4x6 photos as well as postcards, calendars, and other novelties. It's priced at $200 and sadly, will not ship until January. Sorry, holiday shoppers. You'll have to look for a super-compact photo printer elsewhere.
