Nikon announced yesterday their new DX-format AF-S Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 G lens.

Mounted on a DX-format camera, this fixed focal length, fast-aperture lens will offer photographers a similar range to the traditional 50mm focal length – allowing photographers to capture images at a focal length similar to the naked eye's field of view.
The lens is also built with Nikon's Silent Wave Motor technology for quiet auto-focus operation. Nikon hopes that new DSLR users and seasoned professionals alike will find the new lens attractive for its versatility in low-light settings. The design is lightweight and compact, so it should be ready for travel.
The 50 f/1.8 G will be available from retailers beginning March 2009 with a price tag of $199.95.
