New Samsung DSLR in 2009, no full-frame forthcoming

The U.K.'s What Digital Camera magazine provided a synopsis of an interview the publication conducted with Young-Bae Kim, a Samsung exec overseeing the company's DSLR product line. In the interview, Kim made it known that the Korean company would be bringing a new DSLR to market in conjunction with development partner Pentax in 2009.

According to the exec, the next Samsung GX model will likely be more compact than its predecessors for starters. Likewise, Kim notes in the conversation that the 2009 will be a "bigger change" from what Samsung is currently offering than the GX20 was from the GX10.

Kim also sought to downplay supposed tensions between Samsung and Pentax, describing the relationship between the firms as strong and primed for more growth.

Contrary to rampant speculation, Kim suggested that the next Samsung/Pentax venture would look to exploit additional potential in APS-C sized sensors – rather than use a Samsung-developed full-frame imager, as has been widely suggested.
