In support of its Lumix G1 announcement this morning, Panasonic has released details about the first two lenses for the new Micro Four Thirds mount.
Launch as the kit companion to the G1 interchangeable lens camera, the Lumix G Vario 14-45mm f/3.5-5.6 Asph./Mega O.I.S. covers an effective field of view of 28-90mm.
The new optic features element shifting Mega O.I.S. image stabilization for blur-free photos, and is optimized to work with the G1's contrast detection AF system.
Built within an extremely compact form factor that measures less than 2.5 inches in length, the new wide to moderate telephoto zoom is constructed of 12 elements in 9 groups (including a single aspherical element) and includes a hood and storage bag.
In addition to the G1 kit lens, Panasonic also provided details about a Micro Four Thirds telephoto optic, the Lumix G Vario 45-200mm f/4-5.6 Mega O.I.S.
Providing a 35mm-equivalent range out to 400mm at the telephoto end, the 45-200mm utilizes 16 elements in 13 groups and a circular aperture design.
A built-in optical image stabilizer mitigates the effects of vibration - an important consideration for a lens of this focal length.
Both lenses are scheduled for November retail deliveryr; pricing details will be announced next month.
