If you're looking for proof of just how fast the consumer DSLR market has grown, industry leader Canon has it: in spite of slowing sales in consumer goods all around, the company is announcing yet another production and facilities expansion this week.

Canon plans to add approximately 600 employees to the staff of 2,400 currently working at its lens production operation in Taiwan, and expand the physical facility by approximately 150,000 square feet.
Construction at the existing facility will begin this month, with full-scale expanded production ramping up by July 2009. No information was supplied by Canon on the total increase in production volume/units from the plant, which manufacturers Canon's EF-mount SLR lenses.
