As of August 1, National Geographic magazine has opened its International Photography Contest 2008 for submissions.

Images of nature, people, and places and eligible for entry into the well-known contest, which runs until October 31.
The top photograph in each category, selected by a panel of expert judges, will be announced around the end of November. English-language contest winners will receive a DSLR kit; top photos in the international competition will earn their photographers a trip to Washington, D.C. All winning entries will also be published in National Geographic.
Contest participants can submit up to six digital-format shots (either digital images or scans) for consideration. A complete run-down of contest rules, prize information, and a photo gallery highlighting last year's impressive winning entries can be perused at the contest homepage.
