Eye-Fi rolls out two new wireless SD cards

Eye-Fi, maker of the noted Eye-Fi Wireless SD Card, has added two new products to its lineup.

The Eye-Fi Home and Eye-Fi Explore models join the original version (now called the Eye-Fi Share), expanding the range of options for wirelessly transferring images directly from your camera to a computer, photo sharing site, or printing service using Wi-Fi technology.

The base model Eye-Fi Home provides the same principle feature as the Share model, allowing users to transfer images from camera to computer over a home Wi-Fi network. What the Eye-Fi Home doesn't do that the Share does, however, is transfer shots directly to locations online – social networking sites, printing services, and the like.

The Eye-Fi Explore incorporates the features of the other two versions, but adds geotagging and hotspot access as well. While the Explore can still use a home Wi-Fi network for sending images to a computer or the web, hotspot access also allows users to transfer files via any of 10,000 Wayport hotspots in the U.S. A free year of hotspot access is included in the purchase price.

Additionally, the Eye-Fi Explore is able to automatically append geographic information to an unlimited number of photos, allowing shooters to sort their shots by location using several popular software packages.

All three models are built around a 2GB SD card, providing plenty of space for storing image files when you can't access a wireless network.

The new models are already listed on Eye-Fi's website, with scheduled availability in "limited numbers at select online retailers" as early as next week. The Eye-Fi Home is priced at $79.99, with the Eye-Fi Explore coming in at $129.99. The Eye-Fi Share remains priced at $99.99.
