Most Popular Digital Cameras of April 2008

Spring is here, new models are on store shelves, and our list of most popular digicams seems to be shifting by the minute. As happened last month, half of the list from March didn't return for April, replaced by five brand new models that have been steadily climbing in the rankings for the past few weeks. For the first time since we started recording these stats in January 2007, Canon holds less than four of the top ten spots, with only one new model making its way into our listing this month. Though the previous-generation Panasonic TZ3 fell out of the rankings this month after a full year at or near the top of the list, the Lumix TZ cameras remain well-represented – the TZ5 anchored itself in the top spot for a second month in a row.

Coming as something of a surprise, ultrazooms are also one of the big stories this month. With industry analysts predicting not so long ago that low-cost DSLRs would make the ultrazoom market – and especially the premium or "prosumer" class – obsolete before long, it's interesting to note that three ultrazooms (including both the long-running Canon S5 and the high-end Fuji S100fs) made the April list. If there was once doubt about the viability of this segment, continued interest surrounding this year's releases suggests otherwise.

This list of cameras shows you what visitors to DigitalCameraReview.com viewed most often over the past month. The rankings are determined by the number of times a particular product page is viewed by our users. The rankings below are for the entire month of April 2008.
