Additional Sigma DP models anticipated

The blog site 1001 Noisy Cameras reported on Sunday that the UK's Amateur Photographer magazine had obtained information about Sigma's plans to follow up on the much publicized, recently official DP1 with two more models in a similar style – fixed-lens compact cameras with DSLR-sized sensors.

Sigma DP1

Sigma DP1

According to the site, sources suggest that at least one of the new cameras could have some kind of zoom lens.

The post also references a possible replacement for Sigma's current SD14 DSLR, the SD15, that may be on its way for Photokina this fall. Both the SD14 and the DP1 use a three-layer Foveon image sensor that is somewhat unique in the way it captures an image.

Whatever happens, it's our hope that Sigma's work on the DP concept will spur some other manufacturers to follow suit. Read more on the potential new DPs in the full story.

Manfrotto launches three new X-series tripods

Manfrotto, ruler of a sizeable chunk of the tripod market, has released three new models in its pro-grade X series.

Manfrotto

The 190CXPRO3, 190CXPRO4, and 190CX3 feature carbon fiber legs all around. The PRO models also have carbon fiber center columns, while the 190CX3 features an aluminum column instead.

Improvements from previous X models include more ergonomically appealing, easier-to-operate locking levers and redesigned metal castings all around. The PRO models also have an upgraded top plate with an integrated bubble level.

Anticipated street prices are $300 for the 190CXPRO3, $325 for the 190CXPRO4, and $250 for the 190CX3. All three new models should hit stores in March.

Fujifilm drops the price on the FinePix S700

Fujifilm dropped the price on its FinePix S700 ultrazoom over the weekend, presumably in anticipation of the sales release of the replacement S1000.

Fuji S700

As of March 2, the new MSRP for the 7 megapixel, 10x zoom camera is $199.95, slotting in $50 below the S1000's $250 street price.

While Fujifilm hasn't made it clear when the S700 will be phased out, we're betting that availability may be limited to stock on hand, so if you want to jump in on the last-gen FinePix before it goes away, now's probably a good time.
