Nikon L18 announced

Nikon made public this evening the newest addition to its budget L (Life) series of Coolpix point-and-shoot cameras.

The Coolpix L18 is an 8 megapixel point-and-shoot in the stylistic and technological tradition of other L-series models. Key features and specs include a 3x zoom, an upsized 3-inch LCD, and Anti-shake AE image stabilization. ISO sensitivity is extended to 1600 for this model as well.

Not surprisingly, no Optical Vibration Reduction (Nikon's image stabilization technology) appears on the L18. The new model does, however, offer face detection, red-eye reduction, and Nikon's D-Lighting technology. Like previous variants in this series, the L18 runs on AAs, and a super-simple Easy Auto Mode returns for the new offering as well.

Color offerings for the L18 include stylish navy blue and red choices. Even with its budget-camera specs, with an MSRP of $139.95, the March-release L18 still looks to be a great value.
