Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd to replace S700

With a 12x optical zoom, the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd is billed by the manufacturer as the world's smallest digital camera with this kind of zoom range.

Replacing the popular FinePix S700, the 10 megapixel S1000fd covers an impressive 35mm-equivalent span of 33-396mm.

With a hi-res 2.7-inch screen, ISO sensitivity up to 1600 at full-resolution, and full manual control, the S1000fd has many of the specs advanced amateur shooters seek out. Notably absent, however, are both Fuji's highly regard Super CCD sensor and any kind of optical/mechanical image stabilization.

Key soft features include a face detection system that automatically removes red-eye during immediate post-capture processing, panorama mode, and an array of scene preset options.

Even with a less dominant spec sheet than some models in this class, at $249, the S1000fd may still find a strong fan base looking for an affordable, full-featured digicam. The S1000fd debuts in-stores this April.
