Olympus Stylus 790 SW, Stylus 820, Stylus 830, Stylus 1200 Announced

The four new cameras in Olympus' Stylus line are the shockproof, waterproof and coldproof Stylus 790 SW; Stylus 820, Stylus 830, and 12 megapixel Stylus 1200. The new cameras sport some new or useful features, like face detection, Shadow Adjustment Technology, Perfect Shot Preview, and Perfect Fix. The Stylus 790 SW and Stylus 820 will be available in September 2007 for $300 and $250, respectively. The Stylus 830 and Stylus 1200 will be available in October 2007 for $330 and $350, respectively.

The face detection system provides face detection AF and AE, meaning that you get focus and exposure correct on the faces in your shot. Digital image stabilization, which we've seen before, uses higher ISOs to increase shutter speeds. The Digital Image Stabilization Edit uses data collected by a gyro sensor to correct images after they've been taken. Perfect Shot Preview lets you preview possible settings differences (zoom, exposure compensation, white balance, etc) in multiple frames on the LCD and pick the frame that you think looks best. Perfect Fix can apply Digital Image Stabilization Edit, Lighting Fix, and Red-eye Fix. Shadow Adjustment Technology helps correct lighting in harshly lit scenes.

Some of the models in the Stylus line also get Dual Image Stabilization, which consists of a mechanical, sensor-shift mechanism to counteract hand shake in combination with digital image stabilization.
