Kodak Easyshare C513 Announced - First Easyshare With CMOS Sensor

The new Kodak EasyShare C513 is the first Easyshare camera to feature the Kodak KAC-05011 CMOS image sensor. The camera is an entry-level camera, taking pictures at 5 megapixels, with a 3x optical zoom and 2.4 inch LCD. The CMOS sensor provides a lower cost and, ideally, better noise performance.

In the past, CMOS sensors have been cheaper to produce than CCD imagers, but the image quality hasn't been up to snuff. As production processes and technology get better, CMOS sensors are able to produce better image quality, so they become feasible for the consumer market. In addition to Kodak's work with CMOS development, recent announcements from Sony and Canon confirm that there is a lot of investment going into CMOS production.

The Easyshare C513 will be available in August at an MSRP of $99.
