Circuit City Survey Shows That Digital Cameras Top Mother's Day Wish List

Just about the same time every year, Circuit City runs a survey to see what mothers are hoping for as gifts for Mother's Day. Fortunately for them, most mothers are looking for something electronic, specifically digital cameras. Asked about their preferred gift, 20% of mothers would like a digital camera, 16% would prefer flowers, 16% would choose a camcorder, 12% would choose DVDs or music, nine percent want an MP3 player, and only 1% want candy.

Additionally, the mom is known has the "family historian", with 58% of the respondents saying that mom takes the most family photos. Forty two percent of moms are upgrading or actively shopping for a new camera. As far as features, 55% say they want more megapixels, 18 percent want a faster shutter speed (which probably means less shutter lag), 14% want a better lens, and 13% want a camera that is small with a sleek design.

Details On Sony's Compact Flash Line

Sony announced a few months ago that they were planning to roll out a line of Compact Flash cards and we now have some more details from a Sony Europe press release. There will be three capacities available at a 66x transfer speed: 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB. The 66x transfer speed means 10MB/sec for reads and 9MB/sec for writes to the card. For more demanding photographers, there will be two capacities with 133x transfer speed: 2GB and 4GB. The 133x transfer speed equates to 20MB/sec for reads and writes. Additionally, the 133x cards are supported by Sony's image recovery service and the entire lineup comes with 5 year warranties.
