In addition to the new cameras announced today in Sony's ultra-slim T and ultra-zoom H lines, there are three new entries to the compact W line: the Cyber-shot DSC-W200, Cyber-shot DSC-W90, and Cyber-shot DSC-W80. All three cameras have 3x optical zooms, 2.5 inch LCDs and they vary by capture resolution with the W200 coming in at 12 megapixels, the W90 at 8.1 megapixels and the W80 at 7.2 megapixels.

The W200 will ship in May for about $400. The W90 and W80 will both be available in March for about $300 and $250 respectively. The W200 will come in silver, the W90 will come in black and silver, and the W80 will be available in pink, black, white, and silver.

Like new H and T digital cameras, these new W cameras get plenty of Sony's new features, like HD output to a TV, Bionz imaging processor, etc. They also get some technology that's been around a while, like the Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization system.

All of the W cameras are capable of HD output to your TV. This is one of Sony's strategies with their latest models - to get you connecting your HD output capable camera to your HD TV. A docking station with remote will be available that can connect to you A/V setup via a component cable so you can plug in your camera, sit back, and view your images in their high definition glory. Sony will also be offering a package that includes the docking station, HD component cable, remote control, and high-definition printer that can spit out a print in 45 seconds. To fit your widescreen display, the new Sony cameras can capture images in 16:9 format.

They're all equipped with the Sony Super SteadyShot optical image stabilization system to counteract blur from camera shake. They're able to shoot at sensitivities up to ISO 3200 and Sony's Clear RAW noise reduction technology is included to solve some of the graininess that digital noise causes in images.

Sony is also including a new 9-point AF system and their facial detection system that sets focus, exposure, and flash control based on the faces in the image.

Sony will also be including several in-camera editing features. The Dynamic Range Optimizer, also seen on the Sony Alpha digital SLR, improves the image exposure and tonality before the image data gets compressed to JPEG. You will also be able to apply several filters, like a partial color filter to emphasize a particular color, a soft edge filter, or a filter that creates a fishbowl effect. In-camere red-eye correction will also be available.

On a full charge, the W90 camera can shoot up to 350 shots, the W80 model up to 340 shots and the W200 unit up to 270 shots.
