As the DigitalCameraReview.com community grows, we're always looking for better and new ways for our community to interact. While we've had forums since we've started, there hasn't been a great way for uploading pictures or discussing and critiquing them. To satisfy this need, we've added on some photo gallery software to our forums.
The photo gallery is accessible from the top navigation bar of the forums (found at forum.digitalcamerareview.com). Once you've entered the gallery, you can browse other member's galleries or check out pictures in the existing categories. You can also upload photos into your own gallery. Here's a screenshot of the photo gallery link on the navigation bar:
As with normal posts, you must be a registered member to upload photos. Our goal with the photo gallery is to encourage our community to show off their pictures and get help or suggestions when they need it. The entire range of expertise levels will be welcomed. We all want to become better photographers, so the only criticism that will be tolerated is of the constructive variety.
To keep our server resource usage in check, there is a daily upload limit of 10 images. You can upload just about any size image, but if your image is over 1280 pixels wide, it will be resized to a maximum size of 1280x1024.
In addition to your own member gallery, where you can set up albums to organize images, there are also some top level categories. To start with, we have three: Outdoor/Nature, Places, and People. This list of categories is meant to be pretty generic for now and we will consider additions to the list as the photo gallery grows.
The photo gallery is meant for everyone, so offensive images/comments can be reported and will be deleted. The person who posted the offensive material may be banned at the discretion of the webmaster and/or moderators.
We sincerely hope that our community really enjoys the new addition. We're planning to do some fun things with it, like themed contests, photos of the week/month, and son on. If you have suggestions or problems, please use the "Discuss" link found at the top and bottom of this article, or post a new thread in the Site Suggestions category in our forum.
