Samsung has announced the 10.2 megapixel GX-10 digital SLR.  You may notice that it's very similar to the Pentax K10D and you're right to think so.  Pentax and Samsung have been working together to compete in the Digital SLR market.  The GX-10 has also has CCD-shift image stabzilization, a 2.5 inch LCD, weatherproofing, and ability to use Pentax, KAF2, KAF, and KA mount lenses.

Samsung's system of image stabilization, called Optical Picture Stabilization, minimizes blur from hand shake in low light shooting conditions.

To combat dust, there is a special coating on the CCD surface and the image sensor can also physically shake the dust off.  Weatherproofing seals around buttons, doors and seams protect the guts of the camera from exposure from dust and water.

The GX-10 also features a flexible way to shoot RAW images.  When shooting JPEGs, a "one touch" button lets you easily shoot a RAW image if you want, without having to dig through the menu system to change the settings.  In-camera RAW processing lets you edit, then convert, the RAW images to JPEG.  You can use the 2.5 inch, 210K pixel LCD to help you edit images.

Along with the introduction of the GX-10, Samsung is also announcing that five new Schneider D-Xenon lenses will be available for use with the camera (and the entire GX line).  The new lenses will consist of a 10-17mm, F3.5-4.5  fish-eye zoom, a 12-24mm, F4 ultra-wide zoom, a 16-45mm, F4 wide zoom, a 35mm, F2 fixed focus and a 100mm, F2.8 macro lens.

The Samsung GX-10 will be available in October 2006.

Additional Samsung GX-10 Features:

  • Viewfinder magnification of 0.95x
  • 11 point, wide area AF system
  • 16 segment multipattern , center-weighted, and spot metering
  • 2.5 inch, 210K pixel LCD
  • 3 fps continuous shooting - unlimited JPEG images or up to 12 RAW image
