Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T50 and Cyber-shot DSC-N2 Digital Cameras Announced

Sony has announced two new digital cameras that both bring the 3 inch, touch screen LCD goodness.  The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T50 features the first touch screen in the ultra compact, stylish "T" series.  The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2 is an update to the previous touch sensitive N1 and bumps the resolution up to 10 megapixels.  Look for both models in October, with the T50 coming in around $500 and the N2 for about $450.

The 3 inch touch screens on the T50 and N2 will have 230K pixels of resolution.  By utilizing a touch screen and an improved menu system, Sony was able to decrease the number of buttons on the camera.  Just when you thought the T series couldn't get any more stylish, they go and lose those clunky buttons.  Also, the three inch screens enable nice slide show modes where you can use your own background music or customize the slideshow with transitions.

The two new cameras also offer some pretty vibrant colors.  The T50 will be available in silver, black and red.  The N2 will be available in champagne gold.

So, I've already mentioned the 3 inch, touch sensitive LCD.  We'll move on.  The T50 has a 7.2 megapixel sensor.  The 3x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens is stabilized with their Super SteadyShot system.  Also, the camera is able to shoot up to a sensitivity of ISO 1000 for additional help when trying to capture moving subjects without blur.

The camera accepts Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo media.  It also has 58MB of internal memory.  If you get a 4GB Memory Stick, you can get 1100 pictures on the camera for one massive slideshow.

The Sony Stamina InfoLithium battery pack is good for an estimated 400 shots.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N2

The N2 is a 10 megapixel replacement for its predecessor, the N1.  What makes the N series slightly different is that its really meant to be a photo album as well.  Each time you take an image, the full resolution image is stored on the media card (or internal memory) and a VGA version of the image is stored to "protected" album storage in the internal memory of the camera.  You can keep your favorites in this album, even after you've transferred the full resolution images to the computer.  A total of about 500 images can be stored in this album.

The N2 also features the 3x optical zoom Carl Zeiss Vario Tessar lens, but no Super SteadyShot on this one.  Instead, the N2 can shoot at a sensitivity up to ISO 1600.

The camera accepts Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick Pro Duo media.  The battery pack is good for an estimated 300 shots.
