Samsung Announces Digimax S700 and Digimax S1000 Digital Cameras

Samsung has added two new cameras to their "S" line of digital cameras. The 7 megapixel Samsung Digimax S700 and 10 megapixel Digimax S1000 will be avaialble in August. The S700 has an MSRP of $249 and the S1000 has an MSRP of $349.

After reading the press release, it seems the Samsung is really pushing the movie features of these cameras. Both cameras have 2.4 inch LCDs and a 3x optical zoom. The S1000 has the capability to encode movie clips in an MPEG-4 format, while the S700 uses a MJPEG format. This allows the S1000 to fit an hour long VGA (640x480) movie at 30 fps on to a 256MB memory card. Some stabilization helps prevent shaky movies and the 3x optical zoom can be used during the movie capture. Onboard movie editing features round out the movie taking experience.

For taking the still shots, in addition to Auto mode, I assume, there are seven scene modes: Landscape, Close-Up, Sunset, Dawn, Backlight, Fireworks and Beach & Snow. A "Special Effects Hot Key" puts several special effects in easy reach. Choose Color Effect, Negative, Highlight, Photo Frame, and Composite Shot.

A Macro Mode on the camera lets you focus on subjects as close as 5 cm.
