Fujifilm FinePix E900 Digital Camera First Thoughts Review

The Fujifilm FinePix E900 is a stylish and fairly compact brick shaped 9 megapixel digital camera with a 4X zoom, a 2-inch LCD screen, and full manual controls.  Fuji touts the FinePix E900 as the perfect weekend camera for professional shooters who want maximum creative control, but don't want to carry lots of bulky equipment.  According to Fuji, the E900 is also ideal for families with multiple photographers of varying skill levels and serious amateur photographers seeking a camera that can grow with them as their photographic skills improve.

The E900's nifty Natural Light mode automatically adjusts sensitivity to match ambient light, allowing shooters to create more natural looking images without the harsh shadows and hot spots that are hallmarks of images shot with artificial lighting.  Autofocus is quite fast (virtual real time with pre-focus and less than half a second from scratch) but the E900 is slow to lock focus when tracking high-speed action.  Shutter lag is not a problem, but the E900's hair trigger shutter button often trips the shutter before the shooter is ready.   Battery life (with high capacity rechargeable NiMH AAs) is noticeably better than average.  Check back in a couple days for the full review.
