A Pocket Camcorder is a pocket-sized device costing anywhere from $100 to $250, including the Flip and Sony bloggie. These camcorders are light on extras and offer minimal picture controls, focusing instead on simple operation and easy uploads to sharing services like YouTube and Flickr. Outside of a few exceptions, they have a fixed-focus lens and small CMOS sensor. While technically considered HD, the video quality often suffers from poor color reproduction and weak low-light performance. The Camileo Clip from Toshiba does exactly what it says: it clips onto things. The question is, is it a worthwhile feature or just a gimmick?
The HMX-W300 is Samsung's latest attempt at a rugged pocket camcorder. Can it learn from the mistakes of its predecessor, the W200, or does it fall victim to the same flaws?
It's not just a camcorder, and it's not just a camera. The PlayFull Dual that Kodak had on display at CES this year impressed, as it succeded in showing aptitude as both kinds of devices.
Toshiba announced two new pocket camcorders at CES yesterday, the ruggedized Camileo Clip and the Wi-Fi enabled Camileo Air 10. How do they stack up against the competition?
The new Sony Bloggie Live features built-in Wi-Fi for direct uploads and, more importantly, live streaming video. But when a device's main selling point is completely reliant on strong Wi-Fi signals, is it really all that practical?
Sony officially unveiled two new additions to its Bloggie family of pocket camcorders today: the Bloggie Sport, a ruggedized pocket camcorder, and the Bloggie Live, which has built-in Wi-Fi, letting users shoot live streaming video.
Pocket camcorders are hardly ever known for their excellent video quality, and the Kodak PlayFull Waterproof is no exception. But it still has other things going for it and at a very low price point, to boot.
Kodak must be really high on its PlaySport line, as the company has given the second-generation Zx5 a fresh coat of paint and dubbed it the Burton Edition. Is this snowboard-friendly camcorder king of the mountain?
It may be the dog days of summer, but Kodak has its eyes on winter, and they're giving its popular PlaySport Zx5 a seasonal makeover.
Samsung joins the waterproof pocket camcorder fray with the W200 rugged HD camcorder, a $160 device offering full 1080p video that Samsung claims users should take "to the beach, pool, desert, mountain tops, anywhere your adventure takes you." Is the W200 a tough and worthy beast?
Last month we tried out the Kodak EasyShare Sport C123, a rugged digital camera that fell well below expectations. This time around we've gotten our hands on its camcorder counterpart, the Kodak PlaySport Zx5. Does the PlaySport impress?
On paper, it's extremely impressive that Sony crammed 3D capability into a pocket camcorder - and not the old-fashioned blue-red (anaglyph) technology either. The Bloggie 3D shoots real stereoscopic 3D. But cut through the wow factor, and how does the Bloggie shape up as a pocket camcorder?
