Replacing the Lumix G1, the G2 will feature a 3.0 inch vari-angle touch panel LCD and a high-resolution EVF. In a product unveiling just before PMA, Panasonic touted the facial recognition and Intelligent Zoom features of their new HS700 and TM700 high definition camcorders. We spoke with Panasonic's Matt Frazer about the new technology used in their high-end 700 series camcorder line.
Photographers who are already invested in a DSLR system may be looking at a camera like the Olympus E-P2 as a lighter secondary tool for situations that call for more anonymity than a bulky DSLR offers. We took the E-P2 out on the street in our latest On Assignment feature, giving it a field test as a low-profile, street photographer's camera.
Canon states that they will be releasing a firmware upgrade sometime this month for their EOS 5D Mark II. This 2.0.3 update will add 24p video to the camera's existing 30 fps full 1080p HD recording capability. Additionally, the upgrade changes that 30p rate to 29.97 to comply with television standards.
Sony certainly took the photography world by surprise when it announced its full-frame, 24 megapixel Alpha A900 DSLR. Perhaps even more interesting is that Sony followed up with the Alpha DSLR-A850, a sub-$2000 version that makes it the least expensive full-frame camera on the market. See how it performed in and out of the lab in our review.
When we'd had enough of the palm tress, sunshine, and mellow dispositions of the west coast, the DCR team packed up and headed out of Anaheim. We've got some final footage from the show, a look back at some accessories and odds-and-ends we saw, and a few parting thoughts from PMA 2010.
We've already taken a look at the two new lenses Nikon launched for PMA 2010. Now we're scaling things down to give you a quick preview of two of their new compact cameras - the Coolpix P100 ultrazoom and the Coolpix S8000. Nikon's Steve Heiner gives us a video tour of the new features, and we managed to snag some sample images with the new cameras.
Pentax has announced the X90 ultrazoom, successor to the X70. The X90 offers a very long, wide angle 26x optical zoom lens (26-676mm 35mm equivalent), high speed continuous shooting ability, and full manual exposure controls in a sturdy but lightweight body.
PMA kicked off with the announcement of not one, but two 30x ultrazoom cameras. The Fujifilm Finepix HS10 and the Olympus SP-800UZ both offer massive telephoto ranges in fixed-lens, DSLR-like compact cameras. We took a hands-on look at both cameras.
We're rolling out a new DCR feature called "On Assignment" with the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV. Our full review is on the way, but in the meantime Jim Keenan has been testing the low-light capabilities of the new 1D in Whistler, British Columbia, taking the massive ISO range to the vibrant Olympic Village. Take a look inside the Olympic games through an L series lens.
Samsung's announcement of the TL500 and TL350 brings the manufacturer's point and shoot line to a new, enthusiast-focused market. We took a first look at two pre-production samples at the Samsung booth. Read on for initial impressions - and an unannounced guest appearance by the NX K mount adapter in action.
