POINT AND SHOOT CAMERAS: Highly portable cameras are perfect for quick and easy snapshots. They feature fixed lenses, automatic and sometimes manual shooting modes, and have a built-in flash. This category includes 'ultra-compacts'.
COMPACT INTERCHANGEABLE LENS CAMERAS: Small and highly capable cameras that feature a 'mirrorless' viewing and rely on an electronic viewfinder and DSLR-sized sensors to capture and record images. Great for the more advanced photo enthusiast or pro looking for an always-available camera.
ULTRAZOOM CAMERAS: These cameras feature extended-range zoom lenses, with ranges up to 24x and beyond. Some resemble larger DSLRs, while others are more compact. They often have built-in stabilization technology, and are a good option for shooters who want more creative control.
DSLR CAMERAS: DSLRs typically offer the highest level of performance and control a photographer can ask for, at a higher price. These cameras use mirrored through-the-lens viewing systems (though some offer Live View shooting through the LCD), and feature interchangeable lenses.
